I spent too much today

November 10th, 2008 at 01:10 am

Well, it was a good and bad day. We were at a cheerleading competition all day. C. and E. both placed 2nd in their divisions. We're all happy!

What I am NOT happy about is the money that was spent today! 14.00 at McDonalds, 20.00 to get INTO the competition, and this was a school event so I think that is crazy. 15.00 for a T-shirt and 5.00 on snacks. How much is that? 54.00!

Totally blew my budget for the week. I will have to dip into checking because I need at least 50.00 in groceries and at least 20.00 in gas to last me until Friday when DH gets paid. I am trying to find a bright spot in this whole mess but the only one I can find is that I know I will not use my credit card.

Yes, it will hurt to take money out of savings but at least it is cash!

We all had cereal for supper when we got home because we're all too exhausted to even think straight.

Hopefully the rest of the week goes according to plan. I'm going to try my best.

My girls are competitive Irish dancers and they're going to the Midwest Championships. I caved and bought them embroidered warm up suits from their dance school to the tune of $196 (the embroidery of their specific dances was $40 of that!). And I just got an email that there was the last minute addition of a custom patch to be added to the warm ups for an additional $15 x2. I can't even fathom that I spent that much money alone on warm up suits! UGH!

My two daughters are on a dance competition team as well. The teachers try hard to keep things reasonable.
It does seem to get insane with the costs. I used to enjoy it all but now I find that I grumble alot and get depressed about the expenses. I am the only single mom in the group. At times it seems to hit me harder. Alot of older moms tell me that I am making memories that are priceless. It just seems to get more costly every year. At times I feel I am getting nickled and dimed to death. I secretly wish my girls would start to dislike it. I have done it with my oldest for about 5 years. My youngest-- two seasons. At times I am grateful that I have healthy girls who CAN dance and I can do it with them. I do feel blessed but it gets hard sometimes.

My oldest just quit competitive dance after 7 years. It was getting ridiculously expensive and there was so much jealousy/drama between mostly the parents that we couldn't take it anymore. So now she just takes gymnastics. She has been asking to go back to dance but if she does it won't be at the previous school and she will NOT do competition!

Keep at the budget. You have fallen off the horse. See if you can stay in budget for the rest of the month. you still have 20 days to get back in budget.

My point is that we have all fallen of the budget, it's what you do next that's important. Do you give up or fight through?

Good luck and this won't be the last time!!!
